August 09 (2)

After the visit to my consultant I received a call from my GP. The blood tests that had been taken showed that my liver function had some elevated levels. The ALT and Gamma GT were 45 and 84 respectively so a retest was required. I went to the practice nurse for a retest and the results were 74 and 37 so were heading in the right direction.

The following week I had an e-mail from my consultant regarding my x-rays. As suspected my hands and right foot have significant mechanical deformation. The hands show bone thinning also, I have a DEXA scan in one month so will see if this is as a result of prolonged steroid use. My Ferretin levels are increased to 431. This may be related to the virus I had the week before my tests.

August 09

I have recently had an appointment with my consultant. He is happy with my steroid reduction programme and wants to continue this at the current rate. I am taking 5mg of Prednisolone and am still using the daily injections of Anakinra in conjunction with Methotrexate. My Ferretin levels have reduced to 300 and my ESR is less than 10.

The main problems I am still having are the general arthritic damage in my hands, wrists, knees and one of my feet. The foot problem prevents me walking properly and causes considerable discomfort. I am waiting for an appointment with the Orthotic Department to see if a sole insert can help to correct this. Fatigue levels are still an issue and that along with the general pain prevents me leading a normal life.
