Biologic Treatment Stage 2 (Sep 07)

After 6 weeks in hospital I tested negative for pneumonia and other infections. This meant that I was allowed to start taking Anakinra (Kineret). This is administered by sub-cutaneous injection 100mg daily to the stomach or thighs. I was also put onto a course of anti-histamines as the drug has a known problem with injection site reactions, and I have a history of skin reactions.

After only one or two injections I felt an improvement in my overall symptoms. The arthritic symptoms in my hands and wrists were persistant however. This is characteristic of Stills disease, I continued to improve over the course of the following week. I was able to implement the physiotherapy that I had been given, which mainly centered around building up my Quads, Deltoids and core strength. My consultant agreed that I could go home for a weekend.
